Some open work permits will impose restrictions on the kind of job or place in which the foreign national is permitted to work.

Open work permit can be applied by:

  • The ѕроuѕеѕ оr соmmоn lаw раrtnеrѕ of іntеrnаtіоnаl tеmроrаrу wоrkеrѕ

6. Employer-Specific Work Permits

Employer-specific work permits allow you to work as per the conditions on your work permit. The name of the employer you can work for, how long you can work, the location you can work, etc. will be specified on the work permit.

7. Work Permit with Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)

Foreign workers will require a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)-based work permit when working in Canada temporarily. Most of the Canadian work permits require a LMIA, and an employer in Canada needs to get this before hiring a foreign worker.

A positive LMIA will affirm the fact that there is a need for a foreign worker to do the job. It also affirms that no permanent resident is available to fill the role. Therefore, a positive LMIA is considered as a confirmation letter. The worker can apply for a work permit after his/her employer gets the LMIA.
