Family sponsorship can be done under the following categories:

• Sponsor your spouse, partner or dependent children

Spousal Relationship

Spouse: Marriage must be legal and valid in Canada and where the marriage took place.

Common-law partner: Have been living together in a conjugal relationship for at least 1 year continuously. 

Conjugal partner: This relationship is characterized by permanence and commitment to each other, however situations beyond their control kept them from living together.

Dependent child

• Be under 22 years old unless mentally or physically dependent
• Not married or in a common-law relationship

Sponsor your parents and grandparents

Under this program of family immigration, you can sponsor your own parents and grandparents, related by blood or adoption.

Note: There is a maximum intake capacity in this program and the interest to sponsor form can be submitted only during a particular indicated time in the year.

Sponsor your relatives

In an effort to keep families together, the family immigration Canada program allows sponsors who are at least 18 years of age or older Permanent Residents and Canadian citizens to sponsor one relative to Canada, related by blood of any age, if you meet certain conditions.

Sponsor Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
• Sign an undertaking promising to provide for the basic requirements of the sponsored person.
• Meet the minimum financial obligation required by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
