Express Entry is the quickest and most popular method for skilled workers seeking to immigrate to Canada. This online system manages applications for those aspiring to obtain Canadian permanent residence. There are 3 immigration programs under the Federal Express Entry system.

CANADIAN EXPERIENCE CLASS

Do you have experience working or studying in Canada? If yes, then this program is a pathway for you to make Canada your long-term permanent home.

REQUIREMENTS

To qualify for this program, you must meet the following:

• Intend to reside outside the province of Quebec.
• Have skilled work experience in a TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 occupation.
• Accumulated one year of full-time (1,560 hours or 30 hours/week) paid work experience within the last three years.
• Have authorized work experience in Canada.
• Part-time work experience is acceptable if it totals 1,560 hours over two years.
• Demonstrate language proficiency with a minimum CLB 7 for TEER 0, 1 occupations and CLB 5 for TEER 2, 3.

FEDERAL SKILLED WORKERS PROGRAM

Selection factors and points

The following selection factor points are used to assess your eligibility for the Federal Skilled Worker Program.

The 6 selection factors are:

• age
• education
• work experience
• whether you have a valid job offer
• English and/or French language skills
• adaptability (how well you’re likely to settle here)

The selection factors are assessed for each application and assigned an overall score out of 100.

If you score 67 points or higher, you may qualify for the Federal Skilled Worker Program. If you meet the other requirements too, you can submit a profile to the Federal Express Entry pool. Once you’re in the Express Entry pool, there exists a different system to rank your profile.

If you score lower than 67 points, you won’t qualify for the program. 

You may be able to get a higher score by doing things like:

• improving your language skills
• completing another degree, diploma, or certificate
• receiving an offer of arranged employment in Canada

REQUIREMENTS

The requirements to be met are as follows:

• Skilled work experience in a TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 occupation.
• One continuous year of full-time paid work experience within the last ten years, or part-time experience totaling 1,560 hours over two years.
• Language proficiency with a minimum CLB 7 in all four skills.
• Canadian secondary or post-secondary degree, or an equivalent foreign credential with an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA).
• Proof of funds, unless you are currently employed in Canada or have a valid job offer.

FEDERAL SKILLED TRADES PROGRAM

If you are a skilled tradesperson with a specific qualification, the Federal Skilled Trades Program could be your pathway to immigrate to Canada through Express Entry.

The trades that qualify are under these group of National Occupational Classification (NOC):

• Major Group 72: Industrial, electrical, and construction trades (excluding Sub-Major Group 726, transportation officers and controllers )
• Major Group 73: General Trades
• Major Group 82: Supervisors in natural resources, agriculture and related production
• Major Group 83, Occupations in natural resources and related production
• Major Group 92: Processing, manufacturing and utilities supervisors, and utilities operators and controllers
• Major Group 93, central control and process operators and aircraft assembly assemblers and inspectors, (excluding Sub-Major Group 932, aircraft assemblers and aircraft assembly inspectors )
• Minor Group 6320: Cooks, butchers, and bakers
• Unit Group 62200: Chefs

REQUIREMENTS

The requirements to be met are as follows:

• Plan to live outside of the province of Quebec
• Have 2 years of full-time (1560 hours or 30 hours/week) work experience in a skilled trade within 5 years before applying
• Meet all job requirements for that skilled trade according to the National Occupational Classification (NOC)
• Have an offer of full-time employment for at least 1 year or a Certificate of Qualification in that skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial or territorial body
• Proof of language proficiency CLB 5 speaking and listening, CLB 4 reading and writing
