Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP)

The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) is a community-driven program designed to extend the benefits of economic immigration to smaller communities across Canada. This initiative creates a pathway to permanent residence for skilled foreign workers who aspire to work and live in one of the participating communities.

Application Process:

There are four main steps to applying for permanent residence under the RNIP:

1. Check Eligibility:
• Ensure you meet both IRCC eligibility requirements and the community-specific requirements.
2. Find a Job:
• Secure an eligible job offer from an employer in one of the participating communities.
3. Community Recommendation:
• Submit your application for recommendation to the community once you have a job offer.
4. Apply for Permanent Residence:
• If you receive a community recommendation, apply for permanent residence with IRCC.

Each participating community has its own additional eligibility requirements, job search processes, and community recommendation application processes. This information is available on the respective community websites.

Participating Communities:

  • North Bay, ON
  • Sudbury, ON
  • Timmins, ON
  • Sault Ste. Marie, ON
  • Thunder Bay, ON
  • Brandon, MB
  • Altona/Rhineland, MB
  • Moose Jaw, SK
  • Claresholm, AB
  • Vernon, BC
  • West Kootenay (Trail, Castlegar, Rossland, Nelson), BC

What You Can Expect from a Community:

The RNIP is community-driven, meaning the participating communities will:

  • Assess prospective candidates who best fit the economic needs of the community.
  • Ensure candidates have a genuine employment opportunity that meets community requirements.
  • Verify that candidates have the intention of staying in the community.
  • Recommend candidates for permanent residence to IRCC for a final decision.
  • Connect newcomers with settlement services and mentoring opportunities with established community members.

The RNIP offers a unique opportunity for skilled workers to integrate into smaller Canadian communities, contributing to local economies and building a future in Canada.
